Dr. James Clay is a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Oregon specializing in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, assessment of Developmentally Disabled Populations (focus on autism), Public Speaking and trap kit improvisational funk drumming. I completed a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Oregon and graduated with honors. I spent roughly 6 months in Thailand studying Thai dance. I went on to complete a Master’s and Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology with a Neuropsychological Focus. I was granted a competitive 5 year continuing scholarship for previous work in the field of Developmental Disabilities. I have been published in 3 peer reviewed journals and written a chapter on treating co-occurring disorders (ID/DD and MH). I have worked with an exceptionally wide diversity of individuals and diagnoses at Oregon State Hospital and am fluent with many types of psychological assessments.
I was the Director of Clinical Services at Oregon Rehabilitation Association where I provided a variety of services including assessments, clinical supervision, speaking engagements, conference organization and associated duties. I served on the GALT foundation Board of Directors for 7 years and was the Chair of the Financial committee for 2 of those years. Prior to this, I was the co-chair for Behavioral Psychology Services at Oregon State Hospital. I was among the first employees in this division and, under our clinical supervision, it grew to over 15 people in 1 year. I held a position as Clinical and Administrative Supervisor at Linn County Mental Health while continuing my Private Practice. More recently, I worked in a group private practice.

Dr. Clay’s most recent funk band broke up because “our lead singer moved to Texas.”
