Continuing Education Workshop Description:

Poetry can give voice to thoughts and feelings that are difficult to express in conventional conversation, offering clients a creative avenue for reflection, insight, and healing.

This in-depth continuing education workshop introduces psychotherapists to the principles and practical applications of integrating poetry into therapy. Participants will explore how poetry can facilitate emotional expression, meaning-making, and self-discovery while supporting therapeutic goals.

Through discussion, case examples, and experiential exercises, attendees will learn strategies for using poetry prompts, reflective writing, and literary techniques with clients in a safe and ethical way. Therapists will leave with practical tools to incorporate poetry into therapy, helping clients articulate the unspoken, process emotions, and deepen personal insight.

Continuing Education Workshop Objectives:

  1. Develop an understanding of the therapeutic benefits and ethical considerations of using poetry in clinical practice.
  2. Learn strategies and prompts for integrating poetry to support client self-expression, reflection, and insight.
  3. Identify ways to ethically incorporate poetry into therapy sessions to enhance emotional processing and personal growth.
