Cultural competence is not just a skill – it’s an ethical imperative in modern psychotherapy. This continuing education workshop helps psychotherapists understand the ethical responsibilities of providing culturally responsive care, including recognizing personal biases, addressing systemic inequities, and honoring clients’ diverse identities.
Participants will explore how ethical principles intersect with cultural awareness, and how culturally attuned practice enhances therapeutic alliance, client trust, and treatment outcomes.
Through case examples, discussion, and reflective exercises, attendees will learn strategies for integrating ethical cultural competence (as well as cultural humility) into clinical work. Therapists will leave with practical tools to navigate complex cultural considerations, maintain professional integrity, and provide care that is respectful, inclusive, and ethically sound.
Workshop Objectives:
- Develop an understanding of the ethical principles underlying culturally competent psychotherapy.
- Learn strategies for recognizing and addressing personal biases, systemic inequities, and cultural dynamics in therapy.
- Identify ways to integrate ethical cultural competence into assessment, treatment planning, and client interventions.
