In this experiential and interactive training, we will discuss the nature of implicit bias against people who are gender non-conforming. We will explore why it is important to recognize negative attitudes we might hold toward this group and how to best address hurtful and limiting beliefs that we might initially be unaware of.

We will also examine the inequities and disparities experienced by those who are gender non-conforming. This knowledge will help participants understand how to better support and respect their gender-diverse clients.

Objectives

Participants in this workshop will be able to:

  • Understand the definition of implicit bias
  • Discuss how to become aware of our own implicit biases towards people who are gender non-conforming
  • Identify ways in which the gender-diverse community is discriminated against
  • Practice ways to combat our implicit biases towards people who are gender non-conforming
  • Explore ways to provide a more welcoming clinical environment to the gender diverse community
