While new and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) can provide clinicians with powerful and effective clinical tools, such technologies can also potentially create a range of new challenges.

This new ethics continuing education workshop will address the legal and ethical implications of using AI and machine learning in mental and behavioral health practices.

During the workshop, we will identify and discuss the evolving standards in federal law, state law, and professional codes of ethics. Participants will be able to identify and implement a legally and ethically sound approach for evaluating and implementing new AI technologies in clinical practice.

OBJECTIVES:

After taking part in this workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the emerging ethical standards relating to the clinical use of AI.
  2. Apply federal HIPAA standards to the use of AI-powered clinical tools.
  3. Create strategies to evaluate the clinical applicability of new technologies effectively.
  4. Apply legal and ethical standards regarding the use of AI in clinical practice.
