Supporting clients navigating addiction requires clinicians to be knowledgeable about trauma informed approaches and the impact of loss on addiction. Also of importance is providing trauma-informed services in the realm of addiction is having an ethical framework to rely upon to guide practice.  This webinar will present an overview of trauma informed approaches, including the three E’s of trauma. Ethical principles, values, and standards will be explored as they relate to trauma-informed care best practices. The relationship between loss and addiction will be explored. Clinicians will have information on how to ask about trauma and the ways to assess trauma, loss, and spirituality in a clinical setting. Trauma-based interventions presented include dealing w/trauma reminders, somatic experiencing, and appropriate trauma informed questioning. Learners will discover new addiction and loss related perspectives and obtain valuable resources and clinical recommendations.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Explain clinical, ethical, and relational dynamics of trauma and loss in addiction.
  • Identify at least three therapeutic interventions to support clients in addiction recovery.
  • Employ critical thinking skills to ethically resolve addiction and loss case studies and dilemmas.
