Continuing Education Workshop Description:
Transference and countertransference are natural occurrences within the interpersonal relationship between client and therapist. Gaining understanding of how these phenomena occur in therapy and everyday life encourages clinicians to be more fully attuned with their clients and track important meanings in the work.
This continuing education workshop will explain these events and illustrate how they manifest in therapy. Emphasis on how to stay โon trackโ during these unconscious processes will be shared. Discussion will also examine how the therapist can understand and manage their own experiences of countertransference. Clinicians will be able to explore these meanings with their clients, both directly and indirectly, in a manner that aids in enhancing the therapeutic relationship and client growth
Continuing Education Workshop Objectives:
- Describe examples of transference and countertransference in therapy.
- Identify clinical practice situations that reflect transference and countertransference processes.
- Apply ethical and clinical recommendations to address and manage transference and countertransference processes.
