This experiential training workshop invites psychotherapists to explore the dynamic and versatile technique of chairwork, a powerful method for facilitating transformative dialogues within the therapeutic space. Rooted in Gestalt therapy and integrated into various therapeutic modalities, chairwork empowers clients to externalize conflicting thoughts, emotions, and relational dynamics by engaging in structured conversations between different parts of the self or with imagined others. Through active role-playing and guided exercises, you will learn how to guide clients in using chairs to embody and express divergent perspectives, fostering clarity, emotional release, and resolution. And if you are wondering how you might utilize chairwork if you are working remotely with clients, please don’t worry, as you will also learn various strategies for incorporating this powerful tool into virtual sessions.
The workshop will equip you with practical strategies for incorporating chairwork into diverse clinical contexts, including working with internal conflicts, trauma processing, decision-making, and interpersonal challenges. We will practice key interventions, such as amplifying polarity dialogues, facilitating self-compassion, and deepening client insight through perspective shifts. By the end of the session, you will feel confident in employing this creative, embodied technique to help clients bridge internal divides and catalyze transformative change.
