Workshop Description:

Clinicians have an ongoing responsibility to grow in cultural knowledge, skill, and ability. In this presentation, attendees will be encouraged to explore why and how cultural diversity is critical in formulating treatment approaches and being person-centered. Types of racism, bias, and discrimination will be presented. Attendees will be provided resources and information on combating implicit biases and using culturally affirming strategies with clients to identify their experiences with racism, bias, and discrimination. Explore the benefits of being a culturally humble practitioner who demonstrates cultural competence in clinical interactions.

Workshop Objectives:

  1. Explain the core concepts of racism, discrimination, prejudice, and bias.
  2. Identify at least three methods of exploring diversity issues with clients.
  3. Formulate a deeper understanding of cultural humility and culturally competent practice.
