Continuing Education Workshop Description

PDA is a neurodivergent profile known by many names: Pathological Demand Avoidance, Pervasive Desire for Autonomy, Power Differential Awareness, just to name a few. Whichever name you use, PDA is more than just demand avoidance; it is a nervous system response that is all-too-often misunderstood.

This continuing education workshop will help you understand the differences while exploring the traits and experiences of PDA and their impact on relationships with loved ones.

This workshop was created and is presented by B Lourenco, someone who lives with a PDA profile, parents two PDA children, and works with PDA and PDAers in her clinical practice.

PDA is confounding to live with, and subsequently, to work with clinically. The workshop will weave lived experiences with current research data to offer a well-rounded view of this topic. You will leave this workshop with tools and tips you can use immediately to more fully support your PDAer clients and/or partners, family, and friends in creating and sustaining healthy, connective relationships.

Continuing Education Workshop Objectives:

After completing this continuing education workshop, attendees will:

  1. Describe the differences between demand avoidance and PDA
  2. Define how PDA impacts a person’s daily life, including relationships
  3. Identify at least 2 ways that PDA can impact relationships with loved ones
  4. Identify at least 2 clinical skills that will support clients with PDA profiles
