Workshop Description:

Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a common yet maladaptive coping strategy used by some clients. Discover myths and facts about self-injury and explore vulnerabilities that can lead to an increased risk of self-injury. This workshop will define non-suicidal self-injury and dispel common myths about self-injury. The discussion will highlight how to assess self-injury, develop and implement safety plans, and treat non-suicidal self-injury. Attendees will leave this continuing education workshop feeling more confident in assessing and treating self-injury by implementing targeted clinical approaches through case studies.

Workshop Objectives:

  1. Identify risk factors and possible signs of non-suicidal self-injurious behavior in children and adolescents.
  2. Explain the appropriate steps to assess whether an individual is engaging in non-suicidal self-injurious behavior.
  3. Summarize the essential interventions to implement based on the identified risk level.
