Gratitude is more than a feel-good concept – it can be a powerful therapeutic tool to enhance resilience, well-being, and relational connection. This continuing education workshop helps psychotherapists understand the research and practical applications of gratitude in clinical practice, while maintaining ethical boundaries and cultural sensitivity. Participants will explore how gratitude practices can complement therapy, support client insight, and foster positive emotion without invalidating clients’ struggles or minimizing distress.

Through discussion and experiential exercises, attendees will learn concrete strategies for integrating gratitude into sessions, including journaling, reflective prompts, and strength-focused interventions. Therapists will leave with tools to ethically and effectively help clients cultivate appreciation, meaning, and emotional balance in ways that enhance therapeutic outcomes.

Workshop Objectives:

  • Develop an understanding of the evidence and theory supporting gratitude practices as a therapeutic tool.
  • Learn strategies for ethically incorporating gratitude exercises into therapy while respecting clients’ experiences and cultural contexts.
  • Identify ways to use gratitude to support client resilience, insight, and emotional well-being.
