I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor and a nationally registered Art Therapist. I received my degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy from Lesley University in Boston,Ma. I have always had a passion for utilizing a variety of arts in work with my clients, and I enjoy working with many different types of clients and diagnoses. Art is a tool I use withintherapy to help the client express and process complex emotions and situations. I believe art isan important part of healing, especially for children. In addition to art, I use different tools andmethods depending on the need of the client.
Teaching
I have an honest and casual teaching style. We are all humans and we all have manyexperiences to share. I have had experiences that inform my practice as well as adds to theknowledge I can then share with others. I believe in decolonizing therapy, destigmatizingvariable practices, and widening access to resources for therapists. I also believe in thecollective movement that I see therapy to be. I believe that art therapy is a field within itself butalso a skill some may employ in their practice without being an art therapist. I have come to theunderstanding that it is more beneficial for all involved to assist therapists in understanding arttherapy at least to not cause harm to clients when it’s used. It’s also helpful for me to know I’mhelping professionals understand the boundaries of doing art and being a certified art therapist. As a Black woman I feel it is important to be an advocate, a representative and a collaboratorwith all helping professions but especially BIPOC professionals.
