SUMMARY:Professional Wills: Why You Need One and How to Create It
DESCRIPTION:Law & Ethics CEs!\nProfessional Wills: Why You Need One and How to Create It\nPresented by: Sandy Voit MS\, EdS\, LMHC\, CDFA\nWhen: Thursday\, October 15\, 2026\, 2025 | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm Pacific Time\nWhere: Live on Zoom. You will receive your Zoom link/invitation the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credits: CEs: 2 Law & Ethics CEs | $65.00\nARE YOU IN BREACH OF YOUR PROFESSIONAL ETHICS?\nYou have spent your entire professional career securing and storing medical records and ensuring your clients’ confidentiality. What happens to these records when you retire\, become disabled\, or die? \nDid you know that even if you die\, your estate could be held responsible for malpractice complaints and legal actions brought about by your failure to anticipate your demise? \nFor psychologists\, your Code of Ethics dictates that you are expected to “make reasonable efforts to plan for facilitating services in the event that psychological services are interrupted by factors such as the psychologist’s illness\, death\, unavailability\, relocation\, or retirement…” The same ethical mandate applies to Mental Health Counselors\, Marriage and Family Therapists\, and Social Workers. \nThis workshop provides information and examples of how to prepare for such a situation – creating a Professional Will and identifying a Professional Executor to handle the legal and ethical details necessary to protect yourself and your practice. If something happens to you\, you need a similarly licensed professional (not your spouse or child) to deal with your clients/patients\, confidential records\, office leases\, obtain releases\, make referrals\, etc. In addition\, your clients/patients will likely need help in their grieving and necessary transition to another therapist. \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n

This training will provide an overview of human attachment and how both our drive for connection and our tolerance for it are established in our early years. \nWith compassion\, we’ll explore the dynamics of overreliance and discuss what codependence actually is (and\, equally important\, what it is not). SUMMARY:💲SPECIAL SALE!💲 Beyond Answers: Strengthening Our Client’s Inner Compass through Ancient Runes 🆕
DESCRIPTION:💲Last-Minute Deal! $50 Off!💲\nBrand-New!\nLaw & Ethics\, Health Equity\, and Cultural Competence CEs!\nBeyond Answers: Strengthening Our Client’s Inner Compass through Ancient Runes\nPresented by: Kylani St. Clair\, LMHC\, CCTP\, RYT\nWhen: Friday\, October 23rd\, 2026 | 10:00 am – 1:00 pm Pacific Time\nWhere: Live on Zoom. You will receive your Zoom link/invitation the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credit Hours (NBCC and NASW-WA Approved): 3 CEs -counts as Law & Ethics\, Health Equity\, or Cultural Competence | $99.00 NOW ONLY $49.00!\nContinuing Education Workshop Description:\nAmbivalence and uncertainty are common sources of distress for many clients\, who often look to therapists for answers\, reassurance\, and confirmation that they are making the “right” decision. Although psychotherapy cannot eliminate life’s ambiguities\, it can help clients cultivate something even more enduring: an inner compass rooted in self-trust\, personal values\, and meaningful reflection. \nThis experiential continuing education workshop introduces clinicians to the Elder Futhark rune system as an ancient symbolic framework for facilitating deeper therapeutic reflection and meaningful dialogue. Rather than using runes for prediction or divination\, participants will learn to incorporate their symbolism into psychotherapy as a client-centered tool for cultivating intuition\, exploring values\, constructing meaning\, and strengthening clients’ capacity to navigate uncertainty. Throughout the training\, runes are presented as one historical symbolic tradition that can support reflection\, not as a system of universal truth or prescribed belief. \nParticipants will experience the same reflective exercises they may later facilitate with clients\, gaining firsthand insight into the therapeutic process before integrating these interventions into clinical practice. Clinicians will learn practical strategies for incorporating rune symbolism into treatment while maintaining ethical practice\, cultural humility\, and respect for each client’s worldview. \nParticipants will leave with practical interventions they can adapt to a variety of clinical populations\, along with a deeper understanding of how symbolic facilitation can foster self-discovery\, meaning-making\, and confidence in the face of life’s uncertainties. The foundations of Jungian psychotherapy were built with instruments like mythology\, dreams\, archetypal symbols\, and ancient hieroglyphs. Jung regarded runes as a vital tool in “shaping one’s identity and life’s narrative\,” with a unique ability to connect our unconscious with our conscious (Samuels\, 1986; Stein\, 2021). \nRather than helping clients search for certainty\, clinicians will learn to foster greater self-trust\, reflection\, and confidence in navigating life’s inevitable ambiguities—empowering clients to access the wisdom they already possess. Jung highlighted the therapist’s role in psychotherapy as supporting patients in their own journey of “seeking deeper self=understanding” rather than providing simplistic yes-or-no answers. \nContinuing Education Workshop Objectives\n\nDescribe the historical origins\, cultural context\, and traditional use of the Elder Futhark rune system.\nDifferentiate the therapeutic use of runes from divination practices while maintaining appropriate ethical boundaries and scope of practice.\nExplain how rune symbolism can facilitate intuition\, values exploration\, meaning-making\, and clients’ ability to navigate uncertainty.\nObserve therapeutic techniques for incorporating runes into psychotherapy to facilitate reflection\, insight\, and meaningful dialogue.\nApply ethical principles\, cultural humility\, and health equity considerations when introducing rune-based interventions.\nDevelop practical strategies for incorporating rune-based interventions into treatment while honoring client autonomy\, informed consent\, and individual worldviews.\n\nREGISTER HERE\n  \n

One may not know if a client is neurodivergent (ND). As ND people often do not see themselves as needing to be “fixed\,” they may not feel certain treatment approaches and/or vocabulary apply to them – and yet they are in our offices seeking help. Many self-diagnose\, and there are as many presentations of neurodivergence as there are neurodivergent people. How do we conceptualize working with this population? \nOne approach is to de-center the neurotypical classification of behavior as the primary issue and focus treatment instead on the identification and remediation of associated trauma. Sadly\, trauma and Neurodivergence often go together\, and one of the primary results of this is masking. \nMasking is the compensatory strategy many ND people develop to manage social expectations. This skill initially allows them to “fit in” better. Over the long term\, though\, the masking takes a huge toll and most often results in extreme mental and emotional fatigue\, chronic and extreme emotional dysregulation\, exacerbated learning difficulties\, and frightening and isolating trauma responses. \nIn this in-depth continuing education certificate series\, the presenter will discuss what it means to be non-pathologizing in more depth\, demonstrating the need to expand beyond the medical model. Social justice aspects of neurodivergence will be explored\, and a tool that enables a better conceptualization of self than the current “diagnosis” model will be taught and practiced. Then\, several methods to streamline addressing various neurodivergent differences will be shared and applied to case situations and in-session work groups. \nThis series is for anyone who took the survey course and wants more.  The survey course is NOT a requirement. If you’re ready to firm up your repertoire of skills working with Neurodivergent clients by learning a new tool you will find nowhere else\, then you’re in the right place! \nCONTINUING EDUCATION WORKSHOP SERIES OBJECTIVES:\n\nDescribe what it means to be “Non-pathologizing\,” including the benefit of the beyond-medical approach\, the power of resonance\, and the strength of the “pivot” in helping clients reach their fullest potential\nDescribe the specific neurodivergent-trauma that impedes agency and compounds anxiety\, depression\, shame\, and trauma responses\nExplain how certain social justice issues apply and can be addressed both within the medical model and in a non-pathologizing way.\nList and describe the ten domains of Neurodivergence\nCreate a self-map using the 10-Domain tool\nIdentify areas and degrees of masking and create treatment plans to address them\, determining approaches of accommodation versus adaptation\nExplore the concept of agency\, including how to build agency in clients\, in order to enhance self-efficacy and promote positive outcomes\nUse a 3-step Framework approach to addressing neurodivergence that will help clients reduce frustration and clarify direction in daily life\nApply new learning to case studies and real-time practice\n\n***PAYMENT OPTIONS\nCascadia Training values quality continuing education that is accessible\, inclusive\, and without barriers to all. We never want the cost of our workshops to be a barrier to attending one of our workshops\, particularly our multi-session workshops. \nWe offer several options to make our workshops cost-inclusive: payment plans\, a limited number of full and partial scholarships\, discounts for students\, and discounts for early professionals. \nFor payment plans\, you can select paying 50% today and the remaining 50% will automatically be processed from your credit card on the last day of November. \nPlease email us at hello@cascadiatraining.org to inquire about discounts and scholarships. \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n

SUMMARY:Reaching the Inner Child: Using Brain-based Internal Family Systems Therapy to Treat Trauma and Personality Disorders
DESCRIPTION:Reaching the Inner Child: Using Integrated\, Brain-based Internal Family Systems Therapy to Treat Trauma and Personality Disorders\nPresented by: Hannah Smith\, MA\, LMHC\, CGP\nWhen: Thursday\, November 5th\, 2026 | 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM\n\nWhere: Live on Zoom. You will receive your Zoom link/invitation the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credit Hours (NBCC and NASW-WA Approved): 6 CEs | $190.00 \nContinuing Education Workshop Description:\nModern neuroscience has provided us with valuable and targeted information to help in understanding and healing the traumatized brain\, including those with severe developmental trauma who later end up with “personality disorder” diagnoses. \nUnfortunately\, much of this valuable information remains abstract and out of reach to those doing the actual work of trauma treatment. \nThis workshop will address these issues by combining insights from neuroscience with an evidence-based treatment approach known as Internal Family Systems. \nInternal Family Systems is a treatment modality created in the 1980s by Dr. Richard C. Schwartz. Trained as a couples and family therapist\, Dr. Schwartz realized the same dynamics he found in family systems also presented within individuals. His work reveals the brain’s natural ability to create different parts\, known as Managers\, Firefighters\, and Exiles\, to protect the core\, undamaged self. His theory is non-pathologizing\, allowing us to see “diagnoses” as “strategies” and recognizing the protective nature of the “Internal Family.” Using modern brain science and these well-established concepts\, we can isolate and treat the “Inner Child” – those parts that carry traumatic memory – more effectively. \nIn this dynamic\, experiential session\, you will learn the underlying framework of Internal Family Systems from both traditional and neuroscience-informed perspectives\, allowing for greater understanding of yourself and your client and providing higher precision in therapeutic work. By applying narrative and imagery-based techniques in real time\, you will incorporate what is known about brain processing into your work\, enabling you to reach “the Inner Child” more efficiently and safely. Attendees will grow in their practical understanding and application of neuroscience to help reduce shame\, increase client engagement\, improve outcomes\, and – as an added bonus – reduce clinician burnout! \nCONTINUING EDUCATION WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES: \n• Consider Internal Family Systems (IFS) structure and techniques from both traditional and neuroscience-informed perspectives\n• Apply a non-pathologizing treatment model to reduce shame and increase client ability to grow and change.\n• Use “Externalization of Parts” and other somatic\, imagery- and analogy-based techniques to develop the concept of the “Inner Child” to promote experiences that create new neural connections that lead to lasting change and healing\n• Learn techniques to teach internal communication and self-compassion and define and measure success in more effective ways\n• Communicate modern neuroscience principles of neuroplasticity\, mentalization\, and somatic responding as they relate to IFS and the “Inner Child” in a user-friendly manner\n• Apply newly learned skills in real-time to build competency and confidence as a practitioner \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Youth and Adult Suicide: Recognition\, Assessment\, and Treatment of Suicidality
DESCRIPTION:This workshop meets the suicide assessment requirements for re-licensure.\nYouth and Adult Suicide: Recognition\, Assessment\, and Treatment of Suicidality\nPresented by: Randi Jensen\, MA\, LMHC\, CCDC\nWhen: Friday\, November 6th\, 2026 | 9:00 am – 4:30 pm Pacific Time\nWhere: Live on Zoom. You will receive your Zoom link/invitation the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credit Hours: 6 CEs | $199.00\nThis workshop meets the Washington State suicide assessment requirements for re-licensure. The Washington State Department of Health has approved this 6-hour workshop for its 2022 Model List. This workshop also satisfies the continuing education requirements set by the Department of Health related to suicide assessment\, management\, and treatment.\nHistorically\, mental health treatment for suicidal individuals has involved extensive psychopharmacology\, repeated cognitive behavioral therapy\, positive psychology methods\, stress reduction exercises\, and/or deep therapy into family-of-origin issues\, all proven individually insufficient for the long-term prevention of suicide and suicidality. \nThe World Health Organization (2019) reported decreasing trends in suicide mortality in most countries across the world. Unfortunately\, the mortality of suicide showed an increasing trend in the United States. Between 2000 and 2018\, the suicide rate skyrocketed\, increasing by a whopping 35% (CDC\, 2020). Interestingly\, during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic\, between 2020 and 2021\, there was a decrease in suicide rates. This was short-lived\, unfortunately\, as suicide rates began to increase again by 2% in 2022 (CDC\, 2022). \nWhat can we do? As clinicians\, we need to understand there are many roads to suicidality — each usually requiring individual intervention. \nThis workshop presents original concepts in the development of suicidality as an ingenious coping mechanism that develops over time. The brain’s neuroplasticity forms neural pathways that underpin the reinforcing suicidal thought pattern. Brain retraining provides the formation of new healthy neural pathways. The healing process is directed\, encouraged\, and supported through a specifically designed peer protocol based on existing evidence-based social support. \nResearch shows that the first suicide attempt is often the first time anyone intervenes. However\, it is generally not the first time the danger has been known. Loved ones just don’t know what to do. They take the suicidal individual to a hospital or professional where the treatment protocol has not changed for decades. When the suicidal individual comes home after the attempt\, family and friends don’t know how to help prevent the next one. The Jensen Suicide Peer Protocol (JSP3)\, based on evidence-based principles\, is a prescribed method for the family members and concerned others to take an active part in the recovery of their loved one. Randi has used this method for decades and has saved lives. \nOBJECTIVES:\n• Describe the extent of suicide in the general and special populations\, including children\, adolescents\, and military personnel.\n• Distinguish what suicidality is and the difference between self-harm and suicidality\n• Explain the psychobiology of suicidality and its progression\n• Articulate warning signs and symptoms using simple and effective suicide assessment tools\n• Express and practice Motivational Interviewing techniques used in counseling suicidal individuals\n• Explain a life-saving peer support protocol and how to implement it\n• Describe ethical considerations\, documentation\, and confidentiality issues. \nThe Washington State Department of Health has approved this 6-hour workshop for its 2022 Model List. This workshop also satisfies the continuing education requirements set by the Department of Health related to suicide assessment\, management\, and treatment. \nRandi consistently receives excellent evaluations from attendees of her workshops. Here are just a few quotes from past attendees:\n*  “I took a different class about suicide a few months back. It was so heavy with content and so focused on how to cross every “T” and dot every “I” that I actually left more anxious about treating suicidal clients than before. In contrast\, Randi’s workshop gave me a broader general understanding and a way to connect the clinical skills I already have to the treatment of these clients. I feel much more confident and competent working with suicidal clients now.” \n* “Ms. Jensen is an extremely competent clinician and presenter. Over my 30+ career in mental health work\, this is one of the very best workshops I have attended. Thank you\, Cascadia and Randi!”  \n* “This is the most impactful continuing education class I’ve ever taken!” \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n

Participants will examine how astrology can function as a reflective tool that enhances therapeutic alliance\, supports client agency\, and facilitates nuanced conversations about identity and life transitions. \nThis workshop emphasizes ethical integration\, client autonomy\, and practitioner self-awareness. Astrology-Assisted Therapy is presented as a coherent symbolic modality that can be integrated within existing therapeutic orientations to expand conceptualization and deepen relational work. \nWorkshop Objectives:\nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nIdentify foundational astrological structures\nConceptualize astrology as a structured symbolic framework\nApply ethical guidelines for integrating astrology into clinical practice\nDiscern appropriate clinical contexts for AAT use\n\nThis continuing education workshop is ideal for clinicians seeking to expand their use of spiritually integrative\, culturally responsive\, and symbolically informed approaches within professional practice. \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n

Are your clients coming in talking about the card they pulled before the session and you have no idea what that means? Have you used tarot for years for your own well being and would love to use it with mental health clients but not sure how? \nMost clients come into therapy saying that they do not have access to their intuition and are not sure how to trust what the right choices are to make in their lives. Using a single card pulled from a tarot deck\, and exploring the client’s meaning of the card\, clients can begin to feel connected to their own sense of self\, clients can find new ways to safely explore difficult experiences and find ways to test out feeling grounded again. \nStarting with the Jungian concepts of Archetypes we will look at how the collective sense of self represents over these twelve types of being.  Then we will explore the history and uses of tarot. These seventy-eight cards have been used for hundreds of years. Using the Rider-Waite-Smith deck\, from 1909\, as a starting place we will look at many of the decks available today and why people turn to them every day or when times get difficult. \nWe will explore intuition and how to trust our own sense of knowing. In this hands-on workshop\, you will make five of your own cards.  Exploring the major arcana\, and the suits of cups\, pentacles\, swords and wands we will learn the journeys of each of these sets. \nObjectives:\n\nLearn archetypes of Jung and Tarot.\nLearn why the creative process soothes the body and the mind.\nFind materials you will be comfortable using with your clients.\nUse art making for your own self-care.\n\nREGISTER HERE\n  \n

SUMMARY:Motivating Clients from Indecision to Action
DESCRIPTION:Motivating Clients from Indecision to Action\nPresented by: Randi Jensen\, MA\, LMHC\, CCDC\nWhen: Thursday\, December 10th\, 2026 | 9:00 am – 4:30 pm Pacific Time\nWhere: Live on Zoom. You will receive your Zoom link/invitation the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credit Hours (NBCC and NASW-WA Approved): 6 CEs | $190.00 Now Only $140.00!\nMotivational Interviewing (MI) is an established evidence-based practice renowned for resolving ambivalence. MI\, which originates in substance use disorder treatment\, has been shown to enhance client motivation for change and improve treatment outcomes.  The spirit of MI complements Self-Determination Theory (SDI)\, which asserts that people have an intrinsic desire to make life changes congruent with their core values. SDI states that people are more likely to be internally motivated if their actions\, beliefs\, and core values align.  Motivational Interviewing provides the technique to make that happen. The principles of Motivational Interviewing include providing accurate empathy\, building discrepancy\, rolling with resistance\, and increasing self-efficacy. These supply the basis for building intrinsic motivation for change and can facilitate the resolution of life-threatening ambivalence in suicidality. Researchers Britton\, Williams\, and Connor (2008) show how the therapist’s proficiency in Motivational Interviewing can resolve a client’s ambivalence and resistance to change. This very practical workshop includes learning through lectures\, interactive discussions\, demonstrations\, video role plays\, and skill-building through group exercises. These methods combine to provide techniques and interventions that can be applied immediately. \nObjectives:\n• Describe the principles that underpin Motivational Interviewing and how they promote client autonomy • Articulate the distinguishing techniques of open-ended questions\, affirmations\, reflective listening\, and summarizations • Explain the Stages of Change as described by Prochaska and DiClemente (1983) • Discuss the significance of Self-Determination Theory in coordination with MI • Distinguish different methods of using MI with specific populations and varied disorders • Express and practice Motivational Interviewing techniques used in counseling suicidal individuals • Describe ethical considerations and documentation • Enumerate necessary therapist qualities that support the efficient use of MI Randi is an expert in both using and teaching Motivational Interviewing. In addition to her many years of presenting Cascadia Training workshops\, she taught Motivational Interviewing courses as an adjunct faculty member at Bastyr University and as Case Management Program Director for Antioch University and Seattle’s Job Initiative. She also uses her expert-level skills in Motivational Interviewing in her private practice\, specializing in treating clients with suicidality\, suicide ideation\, substance use disorders\, and more. You will discover how tarot card imagery functions as a dynamic visual and symbolic language\, uniquely suited to therapeutic conversations. From its historical roots and cultural controversies to its contemporary relevance in the therapy room\, this course provides a comprehensive introduction to the clinical applications of tarot. \nTarot is a particularly powerful tool in psychotherapy because it engages both intuition and structured exploration. Its archetypal and narrative richness make tarot an ideal companion for therapists working at the intersection of the unconscious and creative expression. Tarot cards can externalize internal experiences\, evoke epiphany\, and stimulate insight\, allowing clients to access feelings and ideas that may be difficult to articulate in more traditional ways. Whether used for parts work or accessing suppressed emotions\, tarot meets clients where they are\, supporting both depth and flexibility in the therapeutic process. \nIn becoming a “tarot-friendly therapist\,” you will discover that incorporating tarot into your practice opens up a creative and intuitive space for clients that is rich with possibility. Tarot allows clients to externalize internal experiences\, access inner wisdom\, and engage in symbolic storytelling that can be both playful and profound. Whether used as a metaphor\, visual prompt\, or reflective tool\, tarot can make therapy feel more accessible\, empowering\, and emotionally resonant\, especially for those who struggle to articulate feelings through words alone. Clients who already have a relationship with tarot (or are simply curious about the cards) will be thrilled to learn that this powerful tool can be integrated into their treatment. \nThroughout the course\, we will explore the projective potential of tarot through the lenses of Jungian psychology\, narrative therapy\, psychodrama\, and Gestalt practices such as chairwork. We will also examine tarot’s compatibility with modalities such as EMDR\, Internal Family Systems\, Poetry Therapy\, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy\, broadening your understanding of how to integrate tarot into diverse treatment approaches. \nWith an emphasis on ethical\, inclusive practice\, you will learn how to introduce tarot imagery to clients in ways that honor spiritual and religious diversity while respecting professional boundaries. The course includes guidance on spiritual competency\, clinical documentation\, and ethical considerations. This highly experiential training offers ample opportunities to practice\, reflect on\, and personalize the material. Whether you are an experienced clinician seeking new depth or a newer therapist curious about symbolic tools\, this program offers both theoretical grounding and hands-on application: The goal is for you to leave feeling comfortable and confident integrating tarot into your therapy practice. By the end\, you will have an expanded toolkit and a new lens through which to view healing\, insight\, and transformation. \nNote: No prior experience with tarot is required. \nThis course is based on Dreya Blume’s book\, The Clinical Use of Tarot Card Imagery in Psychotherapy (2025) (Amazon link) \nExciting News! Dual relationships—both intentional and unintentional—can take many forms and often pose ethical\, clinical\, and legal challenges. \nIn recognition of this significant cause of misconduct\, as of October 2025\, the Washington Department of Health has implemented a new requirement for two hours of continuing education in “Professional Roles and Boundaries” every two years (the new Washington State continuing education requirements\, according to WAC 246-809-630\, can be found here). \nIn this continuing education workshop\, we will examine Washington State laws and professional ethical standards regarding personal and dual relationships with clients. Drawing from recent Washington Department of Health disciplinary decisions\, participants will engage with real-world case studies that illustrate common risk areas. The workshop will also offer practical strategies for establishing and maintaining appropriate clinical boundaries in everyday practice. \nThis course is designed to meet the Washington State Department of Health’s continuing education requirement for Professional Roles and Boundaries\, per WAC 246-809-630. \nThe third “bonus” hour will be a question-and-answer session with Eric and will include discussions of complex ethical cases involving professional roles and boundaries. \nContinuing Education Workshop Objectives:\nBy the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to: \n\nImplement strategies to maximize clinical effectiveness while minimizing liability risk;\nApply Washington legal guidelines regarding dual relationships;\nApply ethical standards concerning personal relationships with clients;\nIdentify and describe various types of inconsistent dual relationships;\nRecognize risk factors that may contribute to boundary crossings or violations; and\nCreate and evaluate strategies to maintain appropriate and ethical clinical relationships.\n\nREGISTER HERE \n  \n  \n

You will discover how tarot card imagery functions as a dynamic visual and symbolic language\, uniquely suited to therapeutic conversations. From its historical roots and cultural controversies to its contemporary relevance in the therapy room\, this course provides a comprehensive introduction to the clinical applications of tarot.\nTarot is a particularly powerful tool in psychotherapy because it engages both intuition and structured exploration.
