SUMMARY:🆕BRAND-NEW! Parentification 🆕
DESCRIPTION:🆕Brand-New!🆕\nParentification\nPresented by: Dreya Blume\, LCSW\nWhen: Monday\, December 14th\, 2026 | 9:00 am – 12:00 pm Pacific Time\nWhere: Live on Zoom. You will receive your Zoom link/invitation the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credit Hours (NBCC and NASW-WA Approved): 3 CEs | $90.00\nContinuing Education Workshop Description:\nParentification is a relational dynamic in which a child is placed into developmentally inappropriate roles of emotional or practical caregiving within the family system. While often invisible or normalized within families\, this role reversal can shape identity\, attachment patterns\, boundaries\, and self-worth well into adulthood. \nThis continuing education workshop introduces clinicians to the concept of parentification from developmental\, relational\, and trauma-informed perspectives\, exploring both instrumental parentification (taking on adult tasks) and emotional parentification (serving as a confidant\, mediator\, or regulator for caregivers). \nParticipants will examine the long-term psychological impacts of these early role reversals\, including links to anxiety\, depression\, relational over-functioning\, and identity diffusion. Clinicians will learn practical therapeutic strategies for helping clients identify internalized responsibility patterns\, develop healthier boundaries\, grieve unmet childhood needs\, and cultivate a more balanced sense of self. \nThrough case examples\, reflective exercises\, and clinical discussion\, participants will gain tools to recognize parentification dynamics in therapy and support clients in reclaiming autonomy\, self-compassion\, and relational flexibility. \nContinuing Education Workshop Objectives:\n\nDefine parentification and distinguish between instrumental and emotional forms of role reversal within family systems.\nIdentify common psychological and relational impacts of childhood parentification\, including patterns related to boundaries\, responsibility\, attachment\, and identity development.\nAssess for signs of parentification in clinical practice\, including common presenting concerns and therapeutic themes associated with this developmental experience.\nApply trauma-informed therapeutic strategies to help clients process parentification experiences\, establish healthier boundaries\, and develop greater self-compassion and autonomy.\n\nREGISTER HERE\n  \n  \n
