SUMMARY:Ethical Assessment in Early Childhood Mental Health and Development
DESCRIPTION:Law & Ethics CEs!\nEthical Assessment in Early Childhood Mental Health and Development\nPresented by: Kristie Baber\, MSW\, LICSW\, CCTP\nWhen: Thursday\, June 18th\, 2026 | 9:00 am – 4:30 pm Pacific Time\nWhere: Live on Zoom. You will receive your Zoom link/invitation the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credits: 6 Law and Ethics CEs | $190.00 \nThis clinical workshop teaches assessment skills\, tools\, and diagnostics to providers engaging with young children. What does depression look like in an infant? Can you attribute a developmental delay to the environment? How is recognizing an attachment pattern valuable to an overall assessment? When is it a typical developmental stage and when is it pathology? We’ll discuss these topics and more – as well as diagnostic and standardized tools to help in our work. We will particularly focus on at-risk populations and the impacts of abuse\, neglect\, and transgenerational issues. Teaching modalities will include a mix of clinical discussion\, lecture\, videos\, case examples\, and group exercises. \nIn response to new legislation in Washington state\, HB 1325\, this class will equip clinicians to utilize the DC:0-5 for diagnosing children and address the new requirement that “Requires clinicians to use the developmentally appropriate standard of practice for diagnosing children 0-5\, the Diagnostic Classification of Mental Health and Developmental Disorders of Infancy and Early Childhood (DC:0-5)\, rather than the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.” ** (effective as of 7/25/21) \nObjectives: \n\nExplore components of an ethical assessment process for young children in therapy (supported by WA HB 1325 requiring the Health Care Authority to provide reimbursement for up to five sessions of mental health intake and assessment of children from birth through age 5 in home and community settings).\nDiscuss developmental domains and understand the interplay between early childhood mental health and overall development.\nConsider risk factors (including substance exposure) and examine traumatic impacts on early brain development.\nReview attachment and other developmental tasks in the first five years of life\, as well as standardized tools for evaluation.\nUtilize the DC:0-5 (the DSM-5 for little kids) as the appropriate\, ethical standard of practice and to meet the legal requirement for diagnosing for young children.\nShare community resources for concurrent early childhood intervention (focus will be on King County).\n\n** HB 1325: Implementing policies related to children and youth behavioral health | Partners for Our Children \n**Washington State Legislature \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n

SUMMARY:Ethics Through a Hollywood Lens
DESCRIPTION:Law & Ethics and Professional Roles & Boundaries CEs!\nEthics Through a Hollywood Lens\nPresented by: Kristie Baber\, MSW\, LICSW\, CCTP\nWhen: Friday\, June 26\, 2026 | 9:00 am – 4:30 pm Pacific Time\nWhere: Live via Zoom. You will receive your Zoom link via email the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credit Hours (NBCC and NASW-WA Approved): 6 CEs – All 6 can be used for Law & Ethics CEs OR 4 Law & Ethics CEs and 2 Professional Roles & Boundaries CEs | Cost: $199.00\nIf we’re being honest\, sometimes it’s hard to feel motivated to take yet another ethics class. But whether we’ve been practicing for years or just starting to integrate the full meaning of our values into the clinical work\, it is essential to reconsider how our field’s ethical principles and standards apply to the actual daily practice with clients. This class will explore some of the most common ethical pitfalls ensnaring even the most experienced therapists. \nThis class is intended to be an entertaining guide to the ethical practice and professional responsibility we strive to attain. From a storytelling perspective\, we’ll look at some slippery slopes\, regrettable missteps\, and colossal blunders. Our focus will primarily be on ethical considerations within the therapeutic relationship – boundary crossings & violations\, professional competency & misconduct\, and the risks of compassion fatigue. \nThis full-day class is designed for practicing therapists with clients of all ages. The workshop will be conducted in a Zoom format. Teaching modalities will include clinical discussion\, lectures with many case examples\, video illustrations\, and small group and individual exercises. \nWorkshop Objectives:\n\nDefine professional competence and identify our scope of practice.\nDifferentiate between boundary crossings and violations.\nIdentify potential impacts of transference and countertransference on ethical practice.\nUtilize Ling & Hauck’s ETHICS model as an option for decision-making.\nExplore the ethical risks of compassion fatigue and strategies to mitigate them.\nDetermine resources and supports for ethical decision-making.\n\nREGISTER HERE
