You will receive your Zoom link/invitation the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credit Hours: 6 CEs – counts toward Health Equity requirements and Cultural Competence requirements| $199.00\nTherapists are becoming increasingly aware of the harm that has been/is being done to clients when healthcare settings (including counseling practices) focus on weight and weight loss as a primary goal.  Most therapists\, however\, have not been trained in how to have conversations with their clients about body shame\, weight stigma\, healthism\, diet culture\, and sizeism. How\, then\, do therapists help clients heal body shame in a weight-obsessed world when our culture is obsessed with weight being an indicator of health?   This course introduces therapists to practical resources\, knowledge\, empowering interventions\, and the language needed to help challenge weight stigma\, connect weight stigma and negative health outcomes\, and support clients toward weight-neutral and compassionate self-care. \nMany providers have increased their awareness of the need to adjust their practice lens and use a more weight-inclusive\, fat-positive approach to addressing food and body issues. Mental health clinicians have become increasingly aware of the expanding body of research that says intentional weight loss and dieting just don’t work\, and find themselves no longer ethically comfortable participating in diet culture. Therapists understand that supporting clients in weight loss or lifestyle changes (even for health reasons) is frequently emotionally and metabolically damaging\, is not trauma-informed\, often results in eating disorders and poor health outcomes\, and is rooted in weight bias and the body hierarchy.  Ethical\, culturally competent mental health practitioners want to know how to help their clients have a more peaceful relationship with food and their bodies.  However\, even the best-intentioned clinician finds that the cultural climate of weight stigma is so prevalent in both medical and mental health fields that they don’t even know where to begin. \nThis course will help therapists have conversations about bodies\, weight\, and health without contributing to the body shaming and size bias that is commonplace in healthcare settings. Participants will learn the core tenets of the CBT model as it applies specifically to suicidal thinking and behavior\, including how cognitive distortions\, emotional dysregulation\, and behavioral avoidance contribute to acute risk. \nThrough lecture\, case examples\, and guided practice\, the course demonstrates how clinicians can use CBT’s structured\, collaborative\, and transparent framework to better understand the drivers of suicidality and create targeted\, individualized treatment plans. \nThe course also explores the concept of the “suicide mode\,” helping therapists recognize the cognitive\, affective\, physiological\, and behavioral patterns that become activated during moments of heightened risk. Participants will be introduced to at least five CBT-oriented intervention methods—including cognitive restructuring\, behavioral activation\, problem-solving training\, safety planning\, and distress-management skills—that directly support clients in reducing suicidal urges and increasing coping capacity. \nWorkshop Objectives:\n\nIdentify at least four core tenets of the CBT model and the conceptualization of suicide.\nDescribe key cognitive and behavioral factors that emerge during activation of the suicide mode.\nExplain at least five CBT-oriented methods of providing suicide intervention to clients.\n\nREGISTER HERE\n  \n

(The majority of people who are no longer working didn’t stop voluntarily…) Clients see our grey hair as a sign of wisdom. We can work as much\, or as little\, as we choose. There will come a time when you are ready to stop working\, and retirement has several issues you must address before you can retire… And there might come a time when circumstances beyond your control – death\, disability\, illness\, incapacity\, and/or caregiving – will prohibit you from continuing. \nYou will do yourself and your family a service by planning for this in advance. We will discuss therapeutic issues\, notification\, records\, liability\, creating a professional will\, and identifying a professional executor.
