Most importantly\, it’s about relationships – the ones we build\, the ones we lose\, and the ones we nurture despite the challenges of distance or system involvement. \nDealing with the inherent issues of separation and transition in the foster care system\, this workshop will address ways to protect connections\, prioritize relationships\, and buffer the experience of loss. With a focus on our kids’ experience of the world\, we’ll explore the following: \n\nVisits\, separations\, and transitions with relationships as the focus\nUnique exposure to grief & loss\nHealthy transitions with tools & resources\nImpacts of placement moves at different stages\nEffective communication with children\nReconsideration of permanence\, family relationships & “open” adoption\n\nThe audience for this workshop includes mental health therapists\, social workers\, caregivers\, and any pediatric providers caring for system-involved children.
