Masking profoundly affects the development of the “self” and the understanding of relationships\, leading to misunderstandings and confusion across all relational settings. Add in the nuances of differing sensory needs and ways of attending to stimuli\, plus experiences of rejection sensitivity and demand avoidance\, and the challenges pile up quickly. And we haven’t even talked about relational trauma yet! \nWhether people share the same neurotype or not\, the impact of neurodivergence is complex and layered. Using a multidisciplinary approach\, this workshop is taught by three clinicians with a variety of expertise and experience and will explore how Autism and ADHD affect intra- and interpersonal relationships\, from platonic to romantic/sexual and everything in between. \nBroken down into 2 parts\, Day One will focus on AuDHD traits and how they influence the individual while in relationships\, and is geared towards folks who work largely with individual clients. Day Two will shift into a relational lens that offers support for clinicians who work with couples and systems. You will receive your Zoom link/invitation the week of the workshop.\nContinuing Education Credit Hours (NBCC and NASW-WA Approved): 6 CEs Meets Criteria for Health Equity or Cultural Competence CEs | $199.00\nContinuing Education Workshop Description:\nWhether they are transgender\, non-binary\, two-spirit\, gender fluid\, or agender\, those in our gender-diverse communities need clinicians who understand the issues they are facing\, as well as how to best meet their needs. \nDreya\, a transgender woman\, has been a gender therapist since 2004 and is thrilled to share her knowledge with you during this dynamic and engaging continuing education workshop. \nWe will review gender-affirming terminology and explore the wide variety of identities within the gender-diverse community. You will learn how to provide gender-affirming care for clients of different ages (children\, teens\, and adults)\, starting with what to include on intake forms and how to create a welcoming office atmosphere. \nYou will also become familiar with themes that typically arise in session\, such as coming out to oneself\, family\, friends\, and coworkers; navigating social and medical transition; managing stress\, microaggressions\, discrimination\, and bias; and dealing with grief and loss (both on the part of the client as well as family members); common mental health issues associated with gender diversity\, such as depression\, anxiety\, suicidality\, PTSD\, and eating disorders; intersectionality; the gatekeeping dilemma; and more. \nDreya will also discuss how to write referral letters for clients (both adults and minors) seeking gender-affirming medical care. We will explore the criteria for “gender dysphoria\,” the role of WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) guidelines in the letter-writing process\, and how to conduct a “gender consultation” for this purpose. \nFinally\, we will examine client transference and clinician countertransference\, as each can impact the therapeutic relationship.
