This continuing education workshop is designed to equip clinicians with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively integrate religion and spirituality into their therapeutic practice. \nIn this workshop\, we will explore the vital role that spirituality and religion can play in clinical work\, in that it can offer clients a deeper sense of meaning\, purpose\, and connection. We will examine the theoretical frameworks and evidence-based practices that support the integration of spirituality and religion in therapy. \nYou will learn how spiritual beliefs influence clients’ worldviews\, coping mechanisms\, and emotional well-being. You will also become familiar with techniques for assessing clients’ spiritual and religious beliefs\, learning how to incorporate these elements into the therapeutic process. The training will also cover how to create a safe and inclusive environment for discussing spiritual and religious issues. \nWe will also explore the ethical guidelines and cultural competencies necessary for integrating spirituality and religion into counseling. As clinicians\, the goal is to recognize the importance of respecting clients’ beliefs and knowing how to maintain professional boundaries. \nThis training will introduce a wide range of practical therapeutic approaches and interventions that draw upon spiritual and religious resources\, such as mindfulness\, meditation\, prayer\, and ritual. You will learn how to adapt these techniques to suit individual client needs and preferences. \nBy the end of this workshop\, you will have a comprehensive understanding of how to incorporate spirituality and religion into your counseling practice\, which will deepen your ability to support clients on their journey of healing and well-being. My goal is for you to leave with the confidence to engage in meaningful conversations about spirituality and religion with clients\, something that can only enrich the therapeutic experience of both client and clinician. \nThis will be an experiential workshop\, with journaling and small group discussion. Do you feel comfortable talking with your clients about intimacy? How do we talk about what we desire and what we want to say “No” to? In this 6-CE continuing education workshop\, we will explore all of this and more — using the most current research and writings on Sex Therapy as the foundation for the workshop. \nOver the past twenty-five years\, Rebecca’s clinical work has centered on helping adult survivors of complex trauma reclaim safety\, agency\, and connection after profound experiences of betrayal and harm. Much of this work has involved sitting with the realities of developmental trauma\, attachment wounds\, and the long-lasting effects of abuse perpetrated by trusted individuals. \nAs the presenter begins integrating intimacy and couples counseling more intentionally into my practice\, she has become increasingly aware of how essential conversations about pleasure\, embodiment\, and desire are within trauma treatment. Our clients often learn how to endure\, protect\, and disconnect long before they are given permission to explore what feels good\, nourishing\, or truly wanted—to discover what brings them pleasure. \nRebecca’s theoretical foundation has been strongly informed by post-graduate training and completion of Levels One and Two at the Sensory Psychotherapy Institute. Using this sensory-informed approach during the workshop\, we will explore safe ways for your clients to discuss what their bodies and minds want most—what is pleasurable to them. \nWe will take time to really look at human physiology and how each of our parts work. This approach emphasizes mindfulness\, nervous system awareness\, and the importance of tracking bodily experience as part of healing. \nWhen clients begin to slow down through mindfulness and sense perception\, they often discover that they have limited experience identifying what they genuinely want. By helping clients attend to sensory experiences in the present moment\, therapists can support the development of curiosity\, self-trust\, and emotional regulation. This process creates space for clients to recognize preferences\, boundaries\, pleasure\, and longing in ways that may have previously felt inaccessible or unsafe. \nWe will also explore issues that complicate desire. The most common topics among these that come up in the treatment room include nonmonogamy\, kink\, how our bodies work\, pornography\, family systems and beliefs\, and societal messaging. \nRather than approaching intimacy solely through cognition or narrative processing\, helping clients remain grounded and present in their bodies creates opportunities for deeper self-understanding and relational connection. The topics covered were largely typical\, normative experiences. This type of education leaves out so many other ways of being and leaves large gaps in our education about alternative ways of engaging with sex and relationships.  Both sessions of this one-day workshop–Kinky Sex Ed and Poly 101–are intended to help fill the gaps in clinical education and understanding. The goal is that the clinicians who attend will be more fully informed\, more inclusive in their approach\, and better able to support clients with “non-normative” sexual identities and experiences.  Kink refers to any sexual interest or behavior that is outside what is considered normative. Research indicates that many people have explored kinks at some point in their lives\, with many people having a kink as a core component of their sexual experiences. This course will identify common kink terms\, concepts\, and identities so that the clinicians who attend can better support kinky-identified clients. \nObjectives:\n\nLearn how kink is defined and connected to social constructs of normativity\nHave a basic understanding of common kink identities\nLearn basic kink terms and cultural norms\nKnow the differences between and among kinks\, fetishes\, and BDSM\nExplore how kinks develop and change over time and sexual development\nDefine healthy and ethical kink\nIdentify ethical concerns in kink culture\n\nAfternoon Session: Poly 101 for Clinicians (1:00 PM – 4:00 PM)\nIn graduate school\, many programs offered a very limited education on human sexual development\, and the topics covered were largely typical\, normative experiences.
